Hi, I’m Lylia — nutrition graduate, home cook, and the person behind every recipe on this site.

My story with diabetes isn’t my own — it’s my mother’s. When she was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I watched her navigate a world of conflicting advice, bland meal plans, and recipes that felt more like punishment than food. As someone who had spent years studying nutrition and dietetics at university, I knew the science. But watching my mother struggle made it personal in a way that textbooks never could.

So I started cooking. Not following other people’s recipes — building my own, from scratch, with blood sugar management built into every decision. Which flour to use. Which sweetener behaves best in baking. Which swaps cut the glycemic load without destroying the texture. I tested everything at my mother’s table, and the rule was simple: if she didn’t love it, it didn’t go on the site.

What you’ll find here

Every recipe is developed with four things in mind:

  • Glycemic index (GI) — I research and include the GI of key ingredients so you know how a dish will behave in your body.
  • Carbohydrate impact — total carbs and fiber, focused on net carbs per serving.
  • Real ingredients — nothing that isn’t in a normal supermarket in the US, UK, or Canada.
  • Actual flavour — a recipe that’s safe but joyless isn’t a solution.

My background: I hold a university degree in nutrition and dietetics. I’m not a registered dietitian (RD) or medical doctor, and nothing on this site is medical advice — I always encourage readers to work with their own healthcare team. I draw on guidelines from the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Diabetes UK, and Diabetes Canada, and I cite peer-reviewed sources wherever I make specific health claims.

Thank you for being here. I built this site for my mother, but I hope it helps yours too — or you, or anyone you love who is navigating life with diabetes. — Lylia
